TFSCALE Exchange Program for Students between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Nayang Polytechnique (NYP) in Singapore in 2016

In the morning of 08th March, 2016, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) welcomed a delegation of 28 students and 02 staff of Nanyang Polytechnique in Singapore as part of student exchange program under the sponsorship of Temasek Foundation Speacialist’s Community Actions and Leadership Exchange in 2016 which is planned to last 02 weeks from 07th to 19th March, 2016.

The NYP delegation was led by Mr. Mark Lim and Mrs. Ng Peck Leng met Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh and leadership of External Relations Office at the opening session.

At the opening session, the Rector appreciated the visit for student exchange activities with HCMUT’s students and expressed hope that the program would offer students good opportunities to learn more and to accumulate more knowledge and experience for their future career as well as to strengthen relationship and understanding between the two instituions.

As the program designed, NYP students come and join exchange activities with HCMUT students who joined those similar ones in Singapore in October, 2015.  A variety of activities would be organized and arranged after a campus and facility tour. These activities include cultural experiences visting Ben Duoc temple, witnessing traditonal local crafts such as rice pan cake making, a cow for milk cultivation farm and the historical site like Cu Chi tunnel in Cu Chi district in Ho Chi Minh City; visiting Ben Tre young city in Ben Tre province and monkey island in Can Gio district; a study trip about water supplies and waste water treatment in Ho Chi Minh City.

The highlight by the end of the program is a lecture session that focuses on climate change issues – a hot topic that has drawed serious concerns and responsibilities of international community for mitigating negative impacts on living environments. This is followed up by presentations by NYP students summarizing what they have learnt during two weeks in Viet Nam.

As far as the objectives of the program concerned, TFSCALE student exchange program at a national level under the sponsorship of TFSCALE aims to encourage exchange activities among students in ASEAN community to learn cultural, educaional and economic features as well as to develop leadership skills for students.

NYP students learning about Vietnam’s history and culture

The program consists of 2 phases: phase 1 called the inbound program started in October, 2015 and lasted three weeks in Singapore and phase 2 – the outbound program lasts two weeks from 07th to 19th March, 2016. The whole program of the two phases both are under the sponsorship of TFSCALE and coordination of Nanyang Polytechnique and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. The program aims to develop leadership skills and sense of responsibility for social community among each individual together contributing one’s youth to building and exchange of ASEAN community.

Earlier last year in October, 2015, 25 excellent students of HCMUT went though a strict screening to be selected for this program in NYP in Singapore. During this period, HCMUT students joined field trips and lecture sessions where the students attended lectures and did group discussions. The students visited the Singaporean elderly and tourist destinations, such as Marina Barrage – the modern water treatement and supply complex, Universal Studio – global entertainment park, Botanic garden, Singapore Zoo, Little China, Little India, Sentosa, Marina Bay, central financial district and car race – F1.
