Experts from AUN University Network are evaluating the quality of academic programs at HCMUT for AUN-QA accreditation |
“Earning AUN-QA accreditation confirms the significant progress of HCMUT in terms of developing academic quality. The University has set a goal towards 2017 to make each faculty (HCMUT has 11 faculties) obtain at least 1 program accredited by AUN”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh, HCMUT Rector said.
ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) was launched in 2004 by ASEAN University Network with the purpose of enhancing quality assurance process of universities in the region, directing to the supports in learners’ mobility to accumulate credits from accredited programs within the network.
Besides, HCMUT is also working on orientation towards getting its academic programs accredited by ABET, EUR-ACE, FIBAA, ACBSP etc.
Pham Thi Bich, MSc, Vice-Director of Center for Educational Testing and Quality Assessment, VNU-HCM added that Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, HCMUT has joined ABET accreditation activities since 2008 in the framework of “Capacity Building for Research and Training” project. At the end of the project, ABET experts supported in consulting the University on upgrading its academic quality.
Until November 2013, the abovementioned programs was accredited by ABET. These are the first two programs in Viet Nam winning ABET accreditation.
The four Accreditation Commissions lead and conduct ABET accreditation activities. The two programs at HCMUT were accredited by two commissions: Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) and Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC).
ABET has 8 general criteria: Students, Program Educational Objectives, Student Outcomes, Continuous Improvement, Curriculum, Faculty, Facilities and Institutional Support.
In addition, each academic program requires particular criteria relating to knowledge and professional skills of graduates.
