A cooperation agreement in research and production of 5G chips concluded between Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) and Viettel High Technology Industries Corporation (VHT)
Intending to train and nourish human resources in the field of miro-chips, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Viettel Technology Industries Corporation reached a cooperation agreement in research and production of 5G chips in the morning of 9 July 2020.

Attended the ceremony from VHT were Deputy General Director Mr. Nguyen Cuong Hoang, Director of Chips Center Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien and Director of Smart Connect Center Mr. Ho Trong Hieu. On the other hand, HCMUT counterparts were presented by President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong, Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Danh Thao together other leaderships from faculties and offices.

According to the agreement, both parties will have comprehensive cooperation in the field of Electronics and Telecommunications, particularly 5G chips research and development, training and producing young human resources, implementing the application of new technologies as well as sharing empirical and expertise information in the field upon mutual interests and requests.

To realize the plan, both parties have signed a cooperation agreement. HCMUT, therefore, will offer VHT consulting services and 5G transceivers design using TSMC CMOS 28nm for 14 months. The next cooperative activities will be doing co-research, development, and the application of new technologies as well as sharing empirical and expert information upon mutual interests and requests.

VHT General Director Mr. Nguyen Vu Ha noted “designing and producing 5G chips under the Viettel brand name is a key move to owning technologies related to 5G by VHT. Furthermore, VHT determinedly focuses on research, design, and production of “make in Vietnam” chips. To do so, as well as working with international producers for technology transfer, VHT wishes to build partnerships with domestic and international experts together with scientists in the field who are working at academic institutions.
The agreement is hoped to bring about promising achievements to level up the cooperation between the two in the years to come.
HCMUT President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Thanh Phong shared his opinion: “the agreement with VHT mainly focuses on research and development as well as high-qualified human resource training. This once again confirmes the prestige of the University among business communities. Given the expertise and experienced staff combined with the capacity and reputation of the VHT, I strongly believe that the cooperation will produce promising achievements to level up the cooperation between the two in the years to come.
